Habits and Sansom

The strength of Samson is legendary. He was so strong he overcame a young lion, a thousand Philistines at one time, and finally the great pillars of the Philistine temple. So long as Samson’s hair was uncut, no Philistine bonds could hold him. So long as we keep the commandments, we too are safe. But once we reject a commandment and get off track, we become spiritually weakened. We can even become blind to our bad habits, just as Samson was blinded by the Philistines. It becomes hard for us to see what is right and eventually a bad habit that we practice regularly becomes part of us and can undermine our spiritual foundations.

Expiation

WHEN YOU LOOK INSIDE THE HUMAN MIND – when you look inside your own mind – you realize that it is almost a world unto itself, a vast and extremely complex world. We have our thoughts. We have our feelings. We have our knowledge of things. Here it is that we think and try to make sense of the world around us. Here it is that we experience love, desire, hope – and the whole range of human emotions. And in our minds are stored all the thousands upon thousands of words we use for speaking and communicating, and the countless knowledges and skills that we need to go about life in this world. The human mind truly is wonderful. It is not that we ourselves are wonderful. It is the Lord who is wonderful. The way in which He has made us is truly miraculous. As it is said in the 139th Psalm, "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."

Gifts -- A Christmas Custon

The Christmas season is here. For many people, this celebration is the most festive event of the whole year. Not only the day itself, but also the many preparations and celebrations associated with it, bring a joy and a gladness which has often been referred to as "the Christmas spirit."

Watchman, What of the Night?

In the story of the Lord's birth we are told that when Mary gave birth to her baby, she laid Him in a manger because, we are told, "there was no room for them in the inn."1 There was no room for the Lord! Many people have commented and reflected on the irony that the celebration of Christmas itself often leaves little time to devote to the Lord and to His Word. There is no room for Him. It is almost as if, in the busy lives of people here on earth today, there are repeated the same problems that existed in the world when the Lord was born.

The Keys of Hell

"Who is it that decides whether or not a person is going to go to hell? Who decides whether he will be allowed into heaven? Who is it that has the power to make that choice?"
